Found the Error:
The Feed Import Owner was not set!
so basicly running this command:
find user uuid:
gvmd --get-users --verbose
and
gvmd --modify-setting 78eceaec-3385-11ea-b237-28d24461215b --value <uuid_of_user>

immauss, this process, import all the data from the feeds, is in background or do we need type a command in console?

gvmd should be doing that on it’s own in the background.

I have the same problem, when I try to save a task, I get this error:Failed to find config 'daba56c8-73ec-11df-a475-002264764cea’
I tried your solution but without success, what else could be done?

Hi Dear,
i was also facing the same problem, i did following commands :
greenbone-feed-sync --type GVMD_DATA
greenbone-feed-sync --type SCAP
greenbone-feed-sync --type CERT
sudo gvm-stop
Wait for 30 seconds and then enter this command
sudo gvm-start
I hope this will work for you, i request you to please update me

Unfortunetlly, it is not working for me. Version 21.4.2.
Could you tell me what correct guidance is or which version is stable without this error. I have just installed it today, so maybe right now presented version is not stable?
I am also using the same version, and mine started working.
Buddy i suggest you to please run following in same sequence :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove openvas
sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove gvm
sudo apt install gvm -y
sudo gvm-setup
sudo gvm-feed-update
sudo gvm-start
I belief it will work.

Hi,
unfortunetly this patch doesn’t work (I have set up kali linux machine one more time to be sure that all steps are realized also on the clean OS).
Do you have an idea how this error could be repaired?
I had this same error and I tried all suggestions given above, but still could not get rid of the error.
I eventually, got rid of it by doing the following:
Step 1: [ gvm-setup ] (after this I got a recommendation to run ‘gvm-check-setup’)
Step 2: [ gvm-check-setup ]
After performing ‘gvm-check-setup’ I observed there were 2 warnings at the end of the line
i. install nsis
ii. edit /etc/gvm/pwpolicy.conf
Step 3: [ apt install nsis ]
Step 4: [ gvm-setup ]
Step 5: [ gvm-start ]
Step 6: open a browser and run the task.
That was how I got rid of the error and was able to scan.

I would like to scan a known compromised server remotly however i am not having much luck

The issue i am having is i get this error

no matter what i do i can not get this to work i have followed all the above steps.

It worked for me like this:
sudo runuser -u _gvm – gvmd --get-users
sudo gvm-check-setup
sudo chmod 777 -R /var/log/gvm
sudo gvm-feed-update
After done the above steps, then we will need wait for 20 minutes to let the scan config appear or check log /var/log/gvm/gvmd.log to find following entries:

I am also facing the same issue on my kali virtual machine, I have performed all the actions mentioned here in the page but still while creating a task it pops out the same error.
Can you please tell me what changes have you made on the pwpolicy.conf as I am also having the same symptoms. Also if there is any other solution.

When you ran “gvm-setup” and “gvm-check-setup” were there warnings?
If there were warnings, take time to go through each line and search for how to neutralize/tackle those warnings. This is my best advice on this.
If you let me know more after the above steps I might be able to do some findings for you.

It seems like your GVM-21.4.3 installation is OK.
I get exactly the same error and results as @buda. The solution in post #10 doesn’t work for me since gvmd --get-users --verbose gives no output (so no users?). Any further suggestions?
@buda I researched a bit further and managed to fix it on my kali setup, using some of the suggestions in this post.
The problem seems to be that you can only change Feed Owner when you are running the gvmd commands as the _gvm user.
This is what I did:
-
sudo runuser -u _gvm -- gvmd --get-users --verbose(notice this should be two - characters between _gvm and gvmd, not a long dash). This should return the users (mine gave only admin), and their uid -
sudo runuser -u _gvm -- gvmd --modify-setting 78eceaec-3385-11ea-b237-28d24461215b --value <uid>Where<uid>is the long guid string you just got from the command above, for the user you are running openvas under)

I’m using OpenVAS in Kali Linux for a specific task, and I had weird issues installing because Postgre had 2 versions installed and they were conflicting. Once I sorted that out and installed, I’m still getting weird issues.
I tried setting up a scan of a specific asset and got the error: Failed to find config ‘daba56c8-73ec-11df-a475-002264764cea
A quick search of this forum shows my GVMD data may be outdated. I used each of the greenbone-feed-sync --type to update, which didn’t seem to do anything. I’m still showing 89 days old, but from what I’ve read that doesn’t really matter.
I’m still getting the same error trying to set up a scan. When I go to “Scan Configs” it is empty.
Outside of completely blowing my Kali VM away and starting from a clean install, what can I do to sort this out?
