Question about 21.04 community feed: are new NVTs still added, or only existing VTs updated?

Hello,

I am using an older GVM/OpenVAS 21.4 setup with the Greenbone Community Feed

I understand that GVM 21.4 is end-of-life, so I am not asking for support for the old software stack itself. My question is only about the Community Feed content.

I noticed that until around 2026-04-16, my NVT feed was still receiving new NASL scripts and updates. After that date, existing NASL scripts still seem to be updated, but I no longer see newly added NASL scripts.

Is this expected behavior for the Community Feed release?

More specifically:

  • Is the 21.04 feed still supposed to receive new NVTs?
  • Or does it only receive updates/fixes for existing NVTs now?
  • Is there an official policy about feed maintenance after the corresponding GVM/GOS release becomes EOL or retired?

I am trying to determine whether this is expected feed behavior or an issue with my local synchronization.

Thanks.

Environment:

  • feed path: rsync://feed.community.greenbone.net:/nvt-feed
  • GVM/OpenVAS version: 21.04.x
  • PLUGIN_SET: 202606080839

Hello j0s3ph, and welcome to the Greenbone community!

In general, all work on end-of-life versions and components has stopped. The feed can be considered end-of-life if both corresponding GOS and GVM versions are end-of-life.

The infrastructure in the background may continue to run for a while (and I assume it did in this case), but we do not guarantee this. We also do not actively monitor the situation, and we do not make any more announcements when the infrastructure is finally retired. Basically if it continues to work that is a bonus, but this is strictly at your own risk.

We recommend to use an actively supported version in all cases.
