I have been running reports successfully with Greenbone community edition but I found that its difficult to ascertain the OS of the device. There doesn’t seem to be a field specifically for the OS. Is there anyway to have the OS version reported along with the other information?

If there is no vulnerability within the OS Version, such meta-scan data are stored as information category. You need to add this to your report as well.
