However, the page states that the current version of Free is 25.0.1.
In the documentation for Free, I see an option to upgrade – but this menu item doesn’t exist.
When searching the web, I also found a note on your site stating that Free cannot be updated.
What is right from this points - I just wanted to use the original OPENVAS as Free version with community feed, no Installation on Kali or so and no see compiled version.
Feed updates are available on a regular basis, but OPENVAS FREE itself cannot be updated. The commercial OPENVAS SCAN can be updated seamlessly and includes access to the OPENVAS ENTERPRISE FEED.
Therefore, it is expected you will not see an option to upgrade the GOS version.
If you feel you were given the wrong version, please contact support. They can best answer questions about the Enterprise Virtual Appliance you have downloaded.
To be clear, you need to understand the difference between the OPENVAS FREE which is a “gratis” test version of Greenbone’s product and the “libre” versions you can use from for example Kali Linux or the Community Docs
OK, I didnt know that there is a difference between this two versions, I thought the community feed in the free version is the same that is used in kali.
So its that the one is free for private use and the other is completly open and to use in every time for every user in use terms way of sight?
And is the feed identical or are there a commercial (OPENVAS basic), a free (OPENVAS Free) and a open source (libre) with completely different type an amount of things to scan?
Yes both use the same feed, but the OPENVAS FREE version is an partly feature stripped appliance with our own Greenbone OS and tooling.
In summary I would say yes.
There are two feeds, a community and a commercial feed. OPENVAS Free and the Community Edition are using the community feed and OPENVAS BASIS, which is our entry level product, uses the commercial feed.
