OpenVAS Failes to Start Properly on Fresh Install

I have tried to install The Community edition onto a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. During the installation I get the error “dependency failed to start: container greenbone-community-edition-scap-data-1 is unhealthy”, but when I run “docker ps” the scap-data container shows as healthy.

Then I wait for a couple of hours to ensure the feed sync is completed, but I am unable to connect to TCP port 9392 as it is never enabled.

I have followed the installation instructions in Greenbone Community Containers - Greenbone Community Documentation multiple times, but always with the same result.

Has anyone else had the same issue?

Thanks.

I was having this same issue on an existing install and a new machine that I just imaged with Ubuntu. I came back to the new image six hours later, pulled the docker image, ran docker compose up, and everything started fine.

Hi Jay, thanks for that. I had tried pulling the image again (a number of times) but to no avail. I finally discovered that some of the processes weren’t starting up properly - gvmd and gsa. Once I started them manually it started working properly.

Hi, we’ve got the same problem.
