When trying to install from source apt install cannot find libpaho-mqtt-dev
which OS do you use? In Ubuntu 20 there is no “libpaho-mqtt-dev”, but in Ubuntu 22 (Jammy Jellyfish) it should be there.

I figured it out, I was trying to install on Ubuntu server. Installing from a fresh Ubuntu iso onto an open machine resolved this issue for me.
