Feed is currently syncing....no task can be started

Just installed OpenVAS 24.10.3 on VMware workstation 17 Pro. Installation goes OK, although it takes a while for all feeds to be updated. See attached screenshots during the install.

It took about 2hr 15 min to update from a just 5 days old feed. BTW i have a 1Gb up/down internet (fiber) connection. Anyway, so far so good, the real issue is in the post below (Feed is currently syncing....no task can be started - #2 by cyberic)

After the successful installation, I closed OpenVAS (with a shutdown from GEA):

After that i restarted the app (just minutes after the feed update) and got the Feed is currently syncing..

I cant start a scan task during this syncing (and again it takes a long time to compete).
This is very very inconvenient. It means that i cant start a scan after my feeds are just!! updated. A scan task should be independent of the Feed status. Pls fix or advise how to handle this.

Hi,

the initial feed sync can take several hours depending on the performance of your host. It needs to load several GB of data from your disk to the databases.

If it says “scanner is still starting”, the openvas scanner is not aware of the vulnerability tests yet because they aren’t loaded into the redis database yet.

No it’s sadly not. Especially the vulnerability tests need to be available for the openvas scanner and gvmd. That means the scanner needs to load all the VTs into the redis database and gvmd needs to load the VT meta information from the openvas scanner into its postgres database. If both information is not in sync and/or the data on your disk is different, a scan can show undefined behavior. Additionally if you don’t have up to date SCAP data you wont get any (or outdated) CVE information to your scan results.

I have checked shortly and it seems the fix mentioned in "Feed is currently syncing." - #18 by cfi is not included in GOS version 24.10.3 yet. This should be included in one of the next versions once the relevant team is publishing it.

Thx. Is there anyway i can check if it is part of a next release or not?

Unfortunately i have no knowledge on such topics so not being able to answer this. But maybe some one else having this knowledge is reading and answering this in the future.
