Is it possible to configure proxy settings in the appliance? Security won’t allow direct internet access, must go through proxy.

Yes, you can use a proxy if your security policy does not allow for direct internet access. You can find more information about it under 7.2.7.4 Setting the Synchronization Proxy in the official documentation.
