@Eero yes, that is how I used to run it; however, I felt uncomfortable using a distro with so many hacking tools at work so decided to use OpenVas in a container instead. Perhaps, I can create a Kali virtual machine and have the host powered off until I need to do a scan. Thanks!
You can build minimal kali with only openvas installed using simple-cdd builder or similar.
I prefer full os due to flexibility.
