Gvmd aborts during scan

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue where some OpenVAS scans are unexpectedly interrupted and cannot be resumed.

The affected tasks end up in the “Interrupted” state. The issue appears to be related to gvmd aborting while executing a database query.

The following messages are visible in the gvmd Docker container logs:

md manage:WARNING: next: sql_exec_internal failed

md main:MESSAGE: BACKTRACE: gvmd(...)
...
md main:MESSAGE: BACKTRACE: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(gsignal+...)
md main:MESSAGE: BACKTRACE: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(abort+...)
...
md manage:MESSAGE: Received Aborted signal
md manage:WARNING: manage_cleanup_process_error: Error exit, setting running task to Interrupted

Immediately before the backtrace, gvmd logs a SQL query involving the results, nvts, result_new_severities_static, users, and permissions_subject tables. The query includes filtering and sorting of results based on severity and QoD.

Observed behavior

  • Some scans are interrupted unexpectedly.

  • The affected tasks are subsequently marked as Interrupted.

  • The affected tasks cannot be resumed normally.

  • gvmd reports sql_exec_internal failed.

  • Shortly afterwards, gvmd receives an Aborted signal and terminates the current operation.

  • The task is then set to Interrupted during cleanup.
